Event Emissions Offsets and Certification
Event holders undertake emissions footprinting projects to understand, and then reduce their event’s environmental impacts on climate change and air quality.
Reducing all types of emissions is important. Carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases, nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur dioxide (SO2), and particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) are only some of the harmful substances caused by the combustion of fossil fuels. Because each of these types of pollution causes its own set of environmental and health problems, offsetting all emissions is important for environmental protection and personal health.
Leonardo Academy's Cleaner and Greener® for Events program:
- Calculates the emissions caused by energy use associated with the event
- Works with the event host to acquire the level of emissions offsets that the event host chooses
- Recognizes the event for the level of offsets achieved
Cleaner and Greener® event calculations include, but are not limited to, emissions caused by:
- Energy use at the event location
- Travel to and from the event by vendors, attendees, and others
- Meal preparation
- Use of hotels
