LEED-EB and Leonardo Academy's Cleaner & Greener® Program
Earn the U.S. Green Building Council's LEED for Existing Buildings 2.0, Energy and Atmosphere Credit 5.4 (EA Credit 5.4) or LEED-EB Operations & Maintenance, Energy and Atmosphere Credit 6 (O&M EA Credit 6): Emissions Reduction Reporting.
Intent
To document emission reduction benefits of building efficiency actions (and for version 2.0, to retire a portion of the reductions and reduce emissions in the supply chain).
Requirements
- Identify building performance parameters that reduce energy use and emissions.
- Track and record emission reductions delivered by energy efficiency, renewable energy and other building emission reduction actions.
- Report emission reductions using a third-party voluntary certification program. (e.g. Cleaner and Greener®)
- Retire at least 10% of the reported emission reductions through a third-party voluntary certification program. (To meet this requirement, the third-party voluntary emission reduction certification and retirement programs must be programs of credible organizations. Third-party programs shall notify any applicable local or regional emission reduction registries of the reported emission reductions.)
- Ask the suppliers of goods and services for the building to do the same by implementing actions 1, 2 and 3 above.
Cleaner and Greener® is a program of Leonardo Academy, a charitable 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We recognize and certify participants for their emission reduction achievements. Completing our program at the participant level qualifies your building to earn the Emissions Reduction Reporting credit. Once your organization has completed the participant-level requirements, we will send you a letter to submit to the U.S. Green Building Council certifying that you have fulfilled the requirements for this credit (EA credit 5.4 or 6).
Note: Cleaner and Greener® Participation and Certification applications MUST be submitted directly to the Cleaner and Greener® Program per the instructions on those applications. Applications only included as part of the LEED-EB application will not be considered. Once you have completed all steps for participant status, the Cleaner and Greener® Program will send a letter confirming your compliance to you. This letter will serve as the required documentation for v2.0 EA Credit 5.4/O&M EA Credit 6.
